Chapter IV. Inferences on the former doctrine concerning communion with the Father in love. Having thus discovered the nature of that distinct communion which we have with the Father, it remaineth that we give some exhortations unto it, directions in it, and take some observations from it:—. 1. He assures that every Christian does have communion with God, no–one is excluded and that this communion takes place distinctly with Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

Our relationship with God the Father is primarily through love and faith. God the Son is through fellowship & grace. God the Holy Spirit is primarily Of communion with God the Father comfort and sanctification/5(57). Communion with God: Of Communion with God the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost Hardcover – November 1, by John Owen (Author)5/5(4).

Communion with God, or in full, "Of communion with God the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost each person distinctly, in love, grace, and consolation; or, the saints' fellowship with the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost unfolded", is John Owen's finest devotional treatise. This work expounds "the most glorious truth that believers may have distinct communion with the three persons Father, Son, and Spirit," 5/5(4).

Of Communion with God the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost; Each Person Distinctly, in Love, Grace, and Consolation, Or, the Saints Fellowship with the Fat Paperback – July 5, /5(2). Owen writes an unparalleled book on experiencing communion with God, distinctly in each person of the trinity.

I was most impacted by his explanation of the workings of the Father and the Holy Ghost. This is, however, not an easy book to read/5. Owen directs Christians towards green pastures and still waters, and lays open the exhaustless springs of the Christian's hidden life with God.

Yet, twenty years after its publication, Of Communion with God provoked the heavy criticism from another theologian. This work brings together not only Owen's original work, but also his response to this heavy criticism. COMMUNION. WITH. GOD THE FATHER, SON, AND HOLY GHOST, EACH PERSON DISTINCTLY, IN LOVE, GRACE AND CONSOLATION; OR, THE SAINTS’ FELLOWSHIP WITH THE FATHER, SON, AND HOLY GHOST UNFOLDED.

Prefatory Note. reader may be referred to the Life of Dr Owen (vol. lxxii.) for a general criticism on the merits of the following treatise. Of Communion with God the Father, Son and Holy Ghost [ThML] InJohn Owen produced one of his finest devotional treatises, probably the substance of a series of sermons.

He examines the Christian's communion with God as it relates to all three members of the Holy Trinity. The saints have communion with God – In 1Johnthe apostle assures those to whom he wrote that the fellowship of believers “is with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ.” The expression he uses speaks with such force that we have rendered it, “Truly our fellowship is with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ.”.

Communion with the Triune God revisits the truth presented by John Owen and challenges all believers to truly recognize and appreciate the ministry that God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit have in their lives.

This work of John Owen encourages Christians to enjoy true communion with each person of the triune God/5(27). We are called of God the Father, as the Father, in pursuit of his love, to communion with the Son, as our Lord.

Rev. iii. 20, “Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.” 83 83 John xiv.

2 Cor. xiii. 14, “The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Ghost be with you all.” This distinct communion, then, of the saints with the Father, Son, and Spirit, is very plain in the Scripture; but yet it may admit of farther demonstration. He assures that every Christian does have communion with God, no-one is excluded and that this communion takes place distinctly with Father, Son and Holy relationship with God the Father is primarily through love and faith.

Book Description John Owen believed that communion with God lies at the heart of the Christian life. With Paul he recognized that through the Son we have access by the Spirit to the Father. He never lost the sense of amazement expressed by John: ‘Our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son, Jesus Christ’.5/5(1).

John Owen's book Communion with God the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost is summarized. Communion with Christ in purchased grace; fellowship with Him in what He has done or suffered on behalf of His.Second, we don't believe that the Father, Son, and the Holy Spirit are three "forms" of God—like, steam, water and ice.

That's the heresy called Modalism. Third, we don't believe that the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit are "parts" or "pieces" or God. That would imply that Jesus is 1/3rd God, the Father is 1/3rd God, and the Holy Spirit is 1/3rd.
